Beeson Reserve War Memorial

Client: Kingston City Council
Type: Public Space/ Plaza
Date: 2011

Council commissioned Urban Initiatives to redesign Beeson Reserve in Edithvale, a popular beachside park that had become quite degraded. The existing park was re-conceived as a long meadow bookended by two elevated palm terraces, one a paved street terrace to the north, the other a landscaped beachside terrace to the south.

The street terrace created the ceremonial platform for a new war memorial that represents the three forces of the Australian military. The park, and the basalt and sandstone monument, were designed and documented by Urban Initiatives and the monument fabricated by William Thomas Jones and Sons, Stonemasons.

The project also saw the installation of elegant new street and park lighting, furniture, ornamental and amenity planting and paved steps and terraces.
