This project involved a long collaboration with Architect Kai Chen of Allom Lovell and Associates from the time of client purchase of a site with Yarra River frontage.
Landscape was an integral consideration as various house design strategies were explored.
The garden has three components: * A small front garden that is designed to fit the street and accommodate a mature Eucalyptus tree. * A fully enclosed central courtyard providing a lush sheltered outlook and dining space. * A lower garden built in advance of the house because of access restrictions. This garden includes a series of stepped terraces down to the river.
Swimming and ornamental pools add visual interest when viewed from above as well as points of intimacy within the garden. The river bank was planted to recreate indigenous plant communities.
This project took over four years from planning stage to completion.
